The Gin Game (by D.L. Coburn) - the winner of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize, uses a game as a metaphor for life. Starring John Chapin as Weller Martin and Dindy Royster as Fonsia Dorsey.
Dindy Royster has studied and performed with the New Surry Theatre since 1979, and has appeared in such plays as The Glass Menagerie, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, and Man of La Mancha. Her husband, John Chapin, joined the company three years ago and has performed in Fiddler on the Roof.
Reviews for The Gin Game:
"a thoroughly entertaining lesson in the fine art of theatrical finesse...the closest thing the theatre offers to a duel at 10 paces."
The New York Times
"Perfect. . . . A vibrant study on loneliness, disillusion, old age and death yet fiercely funny."
Boston Globe
"Extremely intelligent...fine bittersweet comedy...Funny, sad, profane, eloquent, touching, beautiful."
