New Surry Theatre Presents

The Radio Show

New Surry Theatre’s radio performance program started in 2005 when we decided to perform classic episodes of The Adventures of Superman from the ‘30’s and ‘40’s.  We confined these shows to Blue Hill’s annual “Last Night” celebration until recently when we decided to expand the concept and produce radio shows year round.

NST’s repertory company known as The Radio Show, was formed in 2010 to give live recreations of classic old time radio shows and commercials.  Costumes are augmented by vintage pieces and the stage is dressed to represent an old radio studio.  Parts are read from classic scripts and audience members can close their eyes and imagine themselves parked in front of their grandparent’s Motorola on a Saturday evening, like so many people did in those days.

We hope you can share an evening of old fashioned entertainment with us sometime.

The New Surry Theatre announces the next performance of “The Radio Show” on on Saturday February 18, 2012.

New Surry Theatre’s popular old time radio players group (“The Radio Show”) is recreating “The Shop Around the Corner.” Two employees at a gift shop can barely stand one another, all the while not realizing that they are falling in love through the post as each other’s anonymous pen pal! Nearly 60 years before it was remade into “You’ve Got Mail,” this enchanting story was filmed with Margaret Sullivan, James Stewart and Frank Morgan in the leading roles. New Surry Theatre radio show program presents it to you now, along with a delicious meal from the Brooklin Inn.

Director Robin Jones combines commercials and popular songs of the day, along with a preview of the next show to put together an evening of radio entertainment much like that enjoyed by live studio audiences in pre-war America. New Surry Theatre invites you to share this experience with its group of actors specifically chosen for their ability to play multiple roles.
